After a few years of some epic musicals on the London stage, 2008 will be remembered as being a time for excellence in plays both old and new. The 2008 Awards Season reflected the poor year for new musicals, with a Mozart Opera winning Best Musical in London and a classic Rodgers and Hammerstein taking home the awards in New York. In the Heights was able to flourish in this somewhat ‘weak’ year, winning Best Musical despite being far from incredible.
